Corrections Officer Charged With Stealing Drugs

A Logan County corrections officer is out of a job because of allegations about what she did on duty.

Theresa Zook was charged with two counts of theft in connection with alleged incidents at the Logan County Jail.

Officials said the investigation began March 21, when two inmates reported seeing Zook take presecription drugs from a person being booked into the jail.

Zook agreed to a polygraph examination and according to sheriff's records, was told that she failed the exam.

After that, investigators said Zook admitted taking the drugs from the inmate and also confessed to taking drugs from a locked cabinet in the nurse's office.

According to jail officials, Zook said she needed the medication for anxiety. Jail officials said this was a tough case.

Logan County Sheriff Andrew Smith said, "It was a difficult situation for us to be involved in, but we're in a position of public trust here at this office and this is something we take very seriously."

Smith said the jail does random drug testing of its employees and there had never been any problems with Zook in the past.

Zook had been a corrections officer with Logan County for close to 10 years. She will appear in court Friday.
