Victims Identified in Murder-Suicide

TROY, Ohio -- The victims of an apparent murder-suicide Sunday morning in Troy were identified as Sidney Bryant, 65, and his wife Sherry Bryant, 61, of West Milton. Both died from a single gunshot wound.Troy police believe Sherry Bryant shot her estranged husband once in the face about 9.a.m. Sunday in the rear parking lot of the Stouder Center at 1100 Wayne Street in Troy.She fled the scene in her van to return to West Milton. Less than 30 minutes later, Sherry Bryant stopped at the Certified Oil station at 891 S. Miami St. and confessed to the clerk that she "shot her husband in Troy," and asked the clerk to report the shooting to the Miami County 9-11 Center.As Miami County deputies and police arrived at the gas station, Mrs. Bryant refused to get out of the van and shot herself in the chest. She was pronounced dead at the scene.The weapon, according to deputies, was a .38-caliber handgun.Deputies found a letter at the Bryant home at 8900 West State Route 571 that alluded to domestic issues.Troy Police Capt. Chuck Adams said that Mrs. Bryant had a civil protection order against her husband since November 2008.Sidney Bryant was living at the Stouder Center, which was once Stouder Memorial Hospital in Troy. That privately owned complex has been converted into apartments and a small business center.Deputies said they were familiar with the couple from domestic calls to their home over the years.
