Posted: 5:48 pm EDT April 9, 2009Updated: 9:16 pm EDT April 9, 2009

A colonial-type home was heavily damaged in a late-afternoon house fire south of West Milton in Miami County. The location was at 7007 Jay Road near Frederick-Garland Road.

The fire reportedly started in a car parked in a garage attached to the two-story dwelling. The resident had just returned home and pulled her car into the garage.

"A very short time later they discovered fire under the car," said West Milton Fire Chief Denny Frantz. Steve Booher and his wife tired unsuccessfully to put out the fire, explained the chief.

The flames quickly spread into the kitchen of the house.

Fire and smoke damage to the home was estimated at $50,000.

Firefighters from West Milton, Ludlow Falls and Laura answered the alarm shortly before 5 p.m.

There were no reports of any injuries.

Smoke from the fire could be seen for many miles.
