WILMINGTON, Ohio -- Now that DHL says it's moving its last remaining jobs out of Wilmington, the drive is on to find some way to bring in new jobs. The announcement last Friday sets the stage now for a lot of work to be done. The goal is to help people at the Wilmington Air Park make their way throught this crisis. With most of the questions about DHL in Wilmington answered, people are looking to the future. What happens next?Miami Valley Congressman Mike Turner says step one is to try and secure jobs for people who want to move with DHL to Northern Kentucky.Next, Turner wants health and unemployment benefits to continue and third, he wants the community to take back control of the Wilmington Air Park.Congressman Turner told News Center 7's Jim Otte, "DHL has got to come to the table to work with the community and the state so tht the facility can be made available so that we can redevelop it and bring in jobs."A variety of local, state and federal agencies have already begun working in that directrion, opening a dialogue with DHL. THOSEThe big concern is how families will be impacted, so the United Way and other agencies are getting involved. Allen Elijah, President of the United Way said, "There's a tremendous concern about family issues and you can't look at them in isolation. It comes over into how kids behave in school and carries over into the homes, whether temperments are mild or stressed, as how Moms and Dads are getting along."The United Way locally is helping with its 2-1-1 Hotline to refer people to all kinds of help. You can also find help through the local office of Job and Family Services.
