Train, Ambulance Collide In Mercer Co.

The driver of an ambulance was cited Tuesay after he struck a train in Mercer County.

The collision happened around 9:45 a.m. on Saint Anthony Road near Fleetfoot Road, northeast of Coldwater at the R. J. Corman railroad crossing.

The driver of the private ambulance, owned by Integrity Ambulance Service, said he didn't hear the train and drove right in front of it.

Chief Deputy Gery Thobe of the Mercer County Sheriff's Department said, "The driver tried to swerve at the last second and the train struck the back of the squad."

Nobody was seriously hurt and there were no patients onboard the ambulance. The crew was enroute to a nursing home to pick up a patient.

The driver of the ambulance was cited for failure to yield to a train.
