Ninety-two Marines will depart from Dayton on Monday, May 25, for training in North Carolina and California before being deployed to Iraq in August.

The Marines have been activated from Military Police Company C, Headquarters and Service Battalion, 4th Marine Logistics Group, based in Dayton.

The convoy leaves from the Gettysburg Avenue Dayton Marine Corps Reserve Center at 9 a.m. Monday.

Lieutenant Colonel David Slack said leaving on a holiday like Memorial Day or Veterans Day is often more sentimental and meaningful than when leaving other holidays. "Being Memorial Day and we are Marines, in most of our cases, its reminding us of who we are and why were doing what were doing," Slack said.

The activation period is approximately 12 months long, with seven of the months being spent in Iraq. Their mission is to be field Military Policeman in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
