ARCANUM, Ohio -- Officials said there is a lesson to be learned as the result of a barn fire Saturday afternoon at the north edge of Arcanum in Darke County.

The lesson is to not use an open flame weed burner to destroy weeds around the foundation of a building.

Fire investigators said the fire was an accident. The fire destroyed a barn at 3565 Arcanum-Bears Mill Road.

The 40-foot-by-70-foot barn was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at the scene around 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Firefighters from Arcanum were able to keep the flames from spreading to a nearby farm house, even though intense heat from the flames did melt some siding on the house.

Officials said an antique tractor and a pickup truck were destroyed in the fire. Damage is estimated at $50,000.

There were no injuries.

Neighboring fire departments from five other jurisdictions answered the alarm for help.
