LEWISBURG, Ohio -- The Preble County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a child’s death in Lewisburg.

The 2-year-old child was found dead near Swamp Creek Road. A news release from the Sheriff's Office said the child is from Arcanum.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the child and his siblings were playing when the child disappeared. The child’s siblings reported their missing brother to their grandfather, and the family immediately started looking for the missing child.

Deputies said the family called law enforcement after a two-hour search on their own turned up nothing.

Firefighters and deputies responded and found the child face down in a creek.

Emergency responders tried to revive the child and CareFlight flew the child to Children’s Medical Center of Dayton, where he was pronounced dead.

The Sheriff's Office said additional information, including the child's name, will be released on Monday.
