Deputies in Darke County are investigating the drowning of a 10-year-old boy.

The accident happened in the 4772 Delisle-Fourman Road near the village of Arcanum.

According to deputies, the call came in around 8:20 p.m. to the Darke County 911 Center.

Chief Deputy Mark Whittaker said another child found the boy at the bottom of an inground pool at a residence. The boy was pulled out and CPR started.

Witnesses told detectives that the child was not able to swim and that he was not wearing any floatation device at the time of the incident.

Arcanum Fire and Rescue responded and then called for Careflight who took the 10-year-old to Children’s Medical Center in Dayton where he was pronounced dead on arrival to the emergency room.

Whittaker said, “Right now we are doing an investigation, which is required. But, there is nothing at all to suggest that this is anything more than a tragic accident.”

Investigators said a pool party was going on at the time and that there were adults and other children around.
