Foster Boys Suspects In Attempted Robbery

Posted: 3:01 pm EDT June 23, 2009Updated: 4:40 pm EDT June 23, 2009

Police said two foster children are responsible for an attempted robbery at a local United Dairy Farmer's store.

Huber Heights police arrested the teens after a two-hour search.

Officials now believe the boys could be responsible for a separate armed robbery two days ago.

David and Judy Niese were surprised to see officers all over their neighborhood Monday night. "All of the sudden cruisers were up and down the street and a K-9 unit, " said Judy Niese.

Officers were in the area near the Brandt Pike UDF because of a crime earlier in the day. Authorities said two people tried robbing the store, and left a mask, clothing and even a gun behind as they ran from police.

The pair got away but a few hours later officers said they returned to the scene looking for some of the things they dropped. One item in particular, was a cell phone.

Officer Mark Bruns said, "Of course, you know teenagers have to have their cell phones so they came back we think for that cell phone."

Officers sectioned off the area and the two ran and hid. Officer Bruns said, "People would call and say they're over here, and we'd go over there and we just ran them around the nighborhood for awhile.

Police eventually found the boys hiding in some bushes. The 15 and 17-year-olds are foster children from Cincinnati who are now living in Huber Heights.

Now officers are wondering if these are the same boys who held up a cashier at knifepoint last week? "Hopefully, it might clean up two robberies," said Officer Bruns.
