Interstate Lanes Clear After Semi Overturns

Hundreds of cans of Bud Light beer spilled onto westbound Interstate 70 after a tractor-trailer headed on the flyover ramp from 75 North drifted right and hit the wall Saturday afternoon.

Ohio State Patrol Sgr. Chris Colbert said when the trailer hit, it ejected part of its load down onto I-70 where a vehicle was struck.

Two people were injured when the debris hit their vehicle and they were transported to Miami Valley Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

Troopers said they are not sure what caused the driver to drift, but they know the situation could have been worse because the trailer came within inches of flipping onto the highway below.

“We’re lucky no one was killed because beer cans going over the side like that could have been a lot worse,” Colbert said.

The beer crash closed I-70 for several hours as crews had to hail away cans and boxes from the trailer in order to remove it from the scene.

The driver of the semi was taken to Miami Valley Hospital with minor injuries and was cited for failure to operate a vehicle. Police said they will have to interview him to find out exactly what happened.

“We’ll file appropriate charges once we get a chance to talk to him and look at everything and see what exactly happens,” Colbert said.

All I-70 and I-75 lanes were reopened to traffic around 4 p.m.
