Woman, Daughters Hit By Fleeing Driver

A woman and her two daughters were taken to local hospitals after their SUV was hit by a man who ran through a stop sign approaching Route 35.

The crash happened late Sunday night near the village of West Alexandria in Preble County, which is about 15 miles west of Dayton.

The Ohio State Patrol said it appears that the man was driving southbound on Quinn Road and ignored a stop sign, pulling into the path of an SUV heading eastbound on Route 35.

A witness, Michelle Teeling, said, "When he ran the stop sign the silver truck T-boned him and they spun around and into the apartment building over there, crashing into another car and the house, it was pretty scary."

Teeling said not a lot of people kept their eyes on the driver of the car, instead they ran to check on the mother and her daughters in the SUV. "The two girls were hysterical, they didn't know what was wrong with their mom."

Firefighters and paramedics took the woman to Miami Valley Hospital and took the two girls, believed to be between 8- and 12-years-old, to Children's Medical Center.

Troopers said when they arrived at the scene the driver of the car was nowhere to be seen. Witnesses said the driver suffered some injuries, at least cuts on his face, but jumped out of his vehicle and disappeared.

Sgt. Darren Weathington said that might be because the man wanted to conceal alcohol use. Weathington said, "The driver of the at-fault vehicle was consuming, a couple witnesses stated that."

Troopers said they checked the driver's home, some local hospitals and with some of his friends, but he was not found.

The good news is that troopers think the woman's injuries are not serious. They believe she suffered a possible broken ankle. The two girls are also expected to be released sometime Monday with non-life-threatening injuries.

Troopers said the driver of the car could face several charges once he is located.
