2 Stabbed In Fight Over Broken Mop

Police said an argument over a broken mop left two people stabbed and a teen beaten with a baseball bat.

The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Western Manor Apartments on James H. McGee Boulevard in Dayton.

Officers are trying to determine what led to the stabbings and who is responsible. They said they do know that a broken mop led to the melee.

Lt. Bob Chabali said, “The best we can figure is that a mutual fray occurred over a broken mop last night sometime.”

The mop was apparently so important that it led to the woman who lives in Apartment D to head to her neighbor’s apartment and things got a little heated.

Chabali said, “It escalated into adult from Apartment D to stab a juvenile in Apartment C.”

Police said the teen’s mother struck back and stabbed the woman from the other apartment. However, the melee did not end there.

“Somewhere in there, another juvenile was hit over the head with a baseball bat,” Chabali said.

Police said one of the teens was busy spraying Mace on everybody. A crowd eventually gathered to watch the melee as it spread outside, where the women apparently tore each other’s hair out, police said.

The ages of the juveniles involved are 15 and 16. Police said that the young woman who was stabbed was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

News Center 7 talked with officers and they are still sorting out criminal charges, but they did say that the mother of the juveniles will be arrested for her role in the fight.
