Miami Co. Bushels For Hunger

Posted: 3:16 pm EDT July 2, 2009Updated: 4:41 pm EDT July 2, 2009

Members of the Miami County Farm Bureau and Troy Elevator, which is a division of the Mennel Milling Company, are working together to fight hunger in Ohio through the “Farmers Feed Our Needs” campaign.

The organizations are inviting all farmers who are harvesting wheat to donate some of their wheat bushels for hunger. For every bushel donated, Troy Elevator will deposit the current market price of that day into an account. At the end of wheat harvest, Troy Elevator will write a check to The Bethany Center in Piqua.

Mandy Havenar from the Miami County Farm Bureau said, “We are excited about the opportunity to raise money for our local food banks, by farmers donating a couple bushels of wheat when they came to Troy Elevator. As farmers we grow the most safe and abundant food supply in the world.”

Any farmer wishing to donate wheat should let Troy Elevator employees know when they arrive. For more information on this program, you can contact, Mitch or Dianna at Troy Elevator at 335-8334.
