Dayton Police Shut Down "Nuisance" Motel

Posted: 3:46 pm EDT July 2, 2009Updated: 5:34 pm EDT July 2, 2009

Police forced employees and customers out of a Dayton motel and then shut it down.

Officers said the Dayton Motor Motel has been declared a public nuisance and padlocked the doors on Thursday because of ongoing prostitution problems.

Officers said the owners had a chance to appeal, but they didn't, so the order to close the motel was carried out. Sgt. Chris Weber said, "They were upset, naturally."

Everyone staying at the motel was told to leave. Kumer Jatin, who walks to work from the Dayton Motor Motel said he wasn't surprised. "I think many crazy people are coming here," said Jatin. He is now planning on living with relatives until he can find an apartment to rent.

Police said the motel will be padlocked for one year.

An undercover officer was recently solicited there by a prostitute and a clerk at the motel was accused of taking a cut of her money.
