Pepper Balls Used In Standoff

DAYTON, Ohio -- A man who barricaded himself inside a home for nearly eight hours is being held in the Montgomery County Jail, accused of threatening murder.Pedro Guinden Jr., 31, is being held on charges of inducing panic and aggravated menacing.Police said they received a domestic violence call around 2 a.m. Thursday from Guinden’s girlfriend, who said she was afraid that he might do something to hurt her.Officers started looking for Guinden on East Third Street in Dayton. When he was not found, they were directed to the 2000 block of Smithville.Officers used many different methods to lure Guinden out of the home. They used a bullhorn and a flashbang grenade. However, Guinden finally came out with his hands up after officers used pepper balls and fired them into his bedroom.According to police, officers blocked off several blocks of Smithville Road near Bellaire, and evacuated the neighboring houses.Officers said they were not taking any chances. They believed that Guinden was armed.At last check with police, they said they did not find a weapon.
