Fire Marshal Confiscates Greenville Fireworks

Greenville’s fireworks display scheduled for Sunday was canceled and Friday’s Ansonia show is pending after the state fire marshal seized the fireworks that were supposed to be used.

Shane Cartmill, of the state fire marshal’s office, said the unidentified person who was supposed to be putting on the fireworks did not have the required local permits or the required exhibitor’s license needed for the display.

“It disappoints us terribly to have to do this,” Cartmill said in an article in the Greenville Daily Advocate. “But safety has to be the first consideration.”

Cartmill said because the person did not have the required licenses needed, putting on the show would have been a violation of the law and the purchase of the fireworks was illegal.

The fire marshal is currently holding an investigation as to how the fireworks were obtained. If it was purchased across state lines, the person could be facing federal charges because the subject did not have a valid shipper license to transport the explosives.
