Police in Dayton said a man jumped from a highway overpass to avoid being captured.

The incident happened on Sunday afternoon when officers tried to stop the man for failure to signal when he was entering Route 35 from James H. McGhee Boulevard.

Officers said the man took off on foot and jumped from the Route 35 overpass onto Perry Street. They said he landed 45 feet below on a chain-link fence and only suffered a broken wrist.

The man was taken to a local hospital. Police said they searched his car and found several pieces of crack cocaine. They also found a bag of marijuana on him.

He faces a number of charges.
