People at a local company are making sure that no one forgets that Michael Jackson grew up in Indiana.

The "King of Pop" was born in Gary, Indiana and moved to California when he bacame a star.

Jackson is about to be remembered in a permanent memorial being crafted right here in the Miami Valley.

The company is called Stone Plans Monuments. It is a Dayton company with a manufacturing plant in Richmond, Indiana.

Darren Boykins, Vice President for Operations said, "When we heard about the passing of Michael Jackson, he was such an incon in Ohio and Indiana and across the world so we wanted to do something as a company to honor such an artist. We went to our artists and said what can we do?"

They came up with an eight foot tall momument that was designed and is now being built in just over 24 hours.

When it's done it will feature a life-size depiction of Jackson doing his famous moonwalk. He is being captured on a two-ton slab of stone that will soon be shipped to Jackson's hometown.

Craftsman Mark Ramsey is happy to be part of this effort to remember Michael Jackson. "it makes you feel good to say I did that, you know," said Ramsey.

All of the work, from the quarrying of the stone to the design and its laser etching, is all free of charge. Boykin said, "We wanted this to be a gift from our company and the city of Dayton and citizens to Gary, Indiana and the Jackson family. This is something we wanted to be a part of. We really do."
