Are you ready to ride the rails?

State plans for rail passenger service linking Dayton and Springfield with other major Ohio cities are the focus of a new Web site launched Tuesday.

The site at 3CisMe.ohio.gov gives details on the rail network that links Cincinnati, Columbus and Cleveland with Indianapolis and Chicago.

A video on the site also shows the types of trains that would be placed into service beginning in 2011.

Gov. Ted Strickland recently joined governors from other Midwestern states to work together to secure a share of $8 billion in federal stimulus money to begin the rail service.

Ohio is seeking up to $400 million for planning and implementation.

Ohio Department of Transportation Director Jolene Molitoris said the Midwest team of states will work together and speak with one voice to secure federal funding.

“Ohioans are demanding safer and greener travel choices,” Molitoris said.

The state is also seeking feedback from taxpayers. They can register their opinion via the new web site on the issues surrounding traditional passenger rail service and long term plans for high-speed service.
