A passing motorist reported smoke coming from a farmhouse at 9713 Horseshoe Bend Road near Pleasant Hill in Miami County and reported it to 911 around 12:30 Sunday morning.

Miami County Deputy Sgt. Lee McCartney was first on the scene. He beat on windows and even kicked in a door, but smoke, heat and fire kept him from gaining entry into the two-story brick home to see if anyone was inside.

Firefighters from Pleasant Hill, Ludlow Falls, Laura and West Milton were dispatched to the scene.

When firefighters from Pleasant Hill arrived they reported heavy smoke and flames coming from a front door. They quickly knocked the fire down and brought it under control.

No one was found to be at home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation with the help of an investigator from the office of the state fire marshal.

An estimate of damage is being tabulated.

There were no injuries.
