New Research Facility Opens At Tech Town

It has been called a turning point in the history of downtown Dayton.

Federal, state and local authorities dedicated a new research facility Monday morning.

It's the first building to be completed at Tech Town, the city's newest research park.

Work on a second building is already underway and a total of 9 more buildings are yet to be completed.

The research facilities will be focusing on 3-D imaging and unmanned aerial vehicles.

Ohio Governor Ted Strickland said, "This is just the beginning, but it's a good beginning."

Strickland said the big goal is for Tech Town to bring more jobs to the Dayton region. "That's the end goal of research to have that research turned into something that will be commercially viable and create jobs and will produce usuable products," said Governor Strickland.

Inside the new building, different research projects were being displayed like 3-D imaging.

A big player at Tech Town is the University of Dayton. President Daniel Curran said, "Being at the base is great, but if you look at the collaboration between multiple universities and having personnel from the base coming down here, it's a huge step in a new relationship that can help build the entire city."
