Something goes wrong when a man tries to cross train tracks in Springfield.

The accident happened on West Washington and South Plum Streets.

The man ends up being hit by the train and dies, police said.

Gerald May Sr. told News Center 7 that it was his brother 56-year-old Lorenzo May who was hit and killed Monday afternoon.

“I think my brother didn’t hear the bell. There are no horns like there used to be,” said May Sr., the victim’s brother.

Alan Pendleton, a neighbor, said, “I’ve noticed him being around a lot and he didn’t bother a soul or nothing.”

May said his brother had sight in one eye and he also had difficulty getting around.

“He did have a problem walking. Sometimes he used a crutch,” said May.

Police are still investigating the accident.
