A woman was killed in a two-vehicle collision between a minivan and a Hummer on Thursday morning.

The collision happened around 8:45 a.m. on Old Dayton Road which is near the town of New Lebanon.

Sharon Savage, who lives near the crash scene, said “It’s very tragic.”

Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the woman driving the minivan died at the scene, while the woman driving the red Hummer was taken to a local hospital.

People who live on the road said they heard the slamming sound of the wreckage, but no one saw it happen. Some people wonder if the collision was caused by the woman driving in the minivan because she was traveling east toward the sun.

Savage said, “The sunlight. I used to work at NCR and in the morning if you headed into Dayton, it was bad. There was a glare.”

Other people said with construction on Route 35 in New Lebanon, more drivers than usual are using Old Dayton Road to get around it.

Truman Dillon said, “It’s just people going fast and in a hurry. Going past the construction in New Lebanon and using this road.”

Troopers are trying to determine which driver, or if both women, crossed the center line. They are also checking to see if there was any distracted driving taking place.

Investigators said they do know that both women did not hit their brakes or did anything to avoid the crash.

Troopers said they believe at least one of the women were wearing their seat belts.

Sgt. Crhis Colbert said, “The driver of the Hummer was or she would not have fared much better.”

The woman who was driving the Hummer was taken to Miami Valley Hospital and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
