A Xenia High School coach and counselor appeared in court Friday after she was accused of sexual battery involving a student.

Brenda Osborne was suspended with pay after she was arrested last month in connections with incidents that allegedly happened in July and September.

Osborne, 42, has been a teacher and a coach at Xenia High School for more than a decade. She was a counselor for two years.

Students said they are shocked to hear that she was in court.

One student said, “I was doing bad at school and she helped me. She was nice and I don’t why she do that.”

Osborne is facing three counts of sexual battery in connection with sexual conduct with a minor.

Dr. Jeff Lewis with Xenia Schools said, “This is complete shock. Her file is clean.”

Through her attorney, Osborne pleaded not guilty. She was released on $7,500 bond.

The judge said that that Osborne will need to report to adult probation. And if she didn’t, a warrant would be issued for her arrest.

If found guilty on all three counts, Osborne could face up to 15 years in prison.

Lewis said Osborne remains on paid administrative leave. She is expected back in court for a pre-trail hearing on Oct. 22.
