The Clark County Sheriff’s Office received a call from an off-duty deputy that was possibly following an impaired driver on eastbound on New Carlisle Pike in Bethel Township.

Deputies said the off duty-deputy continued to call in the driver’s location and followed the vehicle until the uniform deputies could arrive in the area.

During this time, the off duty-deputy continued to communicate with the dispatcher reporting numerous traffic violations and near crashes caused by the driver, deputies said.

A traffic stop was made on Upper Valley Pike at Ash Drive and the driver of the vehicle is Roberto M. Gonzalez of New Carlisle.

Deputies said Gonzalez had an open container of alcohol and was found to be under the influence. He was taken into custody and transported to the Clark County Jail.

Gonzalez was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence, marked lanes, no operator’s license, seatbelt and open container, deputies said.
