Miami Township police are working to track down a man that robbed a Speedway store around 5:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

The hold-up happened at the Speedway located at State Route 741 and Alex-Bell Road.

Officers said the man waited for all other customers to leave the store, leaving only the clerk inside.

He then walked in wearing a mask and demanded money.

The clerk cooperated and the man got away with a small amount of cash that was in the register.

Police said customers that were pumping gas in the store's lot spotted the man go behind the station and walk along a fence that leads to a nearby auto parts store and a laundromat.

They called in a K-9 from Dayton Police to track the man. Officers said the dog followed the scent to an area behind the laundromat and stopped.

Police believe the man had a waiting car and left the area.

Investigators are now talking to customers and checking the store's surveillance tapes for any clues to help catch up to the man.

Police said the clerk did the right thing by cooperating. Sgt. Jerry Adams said, "Handing over the money was absolutely the right thing to do in this situation. No amount of money in the world is worth your life or anything else in that store."

Officers said by their first look at the video surveillance the robber appeared to be about 5'11" tall. He was wearing a dark sweatshirt and a dark hooded jacket. Police said he also had on baggy jeans and Converse-type shoes.

Police said they'll be checking to see if any nearby bsuinesses had exterior security cameras that might have captured a car leaving the area right after the robbery.
