Versailles Bar Damaged In Fire

VERSAILLES, Ohio -- Firefighters in Versailles quickly brought under control a fire that heavily damaged Sideliner's Sports Bar and Grill at 17 E. Main St. in the center of downtown Versailles in Darke County.The alarm sounded at 9:15 Friday night, sending firefighters from Versailles and neighboring Russia and Osgood to the scene. The aerial truck from the Greenville Fire Dept. was put on stand-by in case it was needed, but wasn't.Versailles Fire Chief Bob Frey said, "Preliminary indications are the fire start in or near the ventilation system above the stove in the kitchen."The fire damage will be extensive, said Frey. Investigators have yet to tabulate the losses. The actual fire was confined to the bar. However, smoke affected the second floor apartments along with a savings and loan on one side of the bar and a doctor's office and an insurance agency on the other side.There were no injuries.
