An Oakwood police officer is being investigated by Dayton police.

Police said John McCalister, a 14-year veteran of the Oakwood Police Department, is under investigation in connection with a misdemeanor assault that occurred inside a Rite Aid store, which is located at the intersection of at Wilmington and Patterson earlier this month.

According to police reports Officer John McCalister, Officer Tiffany McCalister and Paul Watts, 48, had a verbal altercation after Watts asked McCalister for change at the Rite Aid store.

The officer allegedly punched another customer in the store. Police said he was not on duty or in uniform at the time of the incident.

According to the police report, Watts then uttered an expletive at McCalister.

On Thursday, the City of Dayton public affairs office released surveillance video of the incident.

Oakwood's police chief said the patrol officer was placed on administrative leave, pending more investigation and review by their department.

Both John and Tiffany McCalister were placed on paid administrative leave and Watts has not been charged.

John McCalister faces a misdemeanor assault charge and a pre-trial conference has been scheduled for Dec. 1.
