November Is National Adoption Month

Posted: 10:36 am EST November 1, 2009

Nearly 70 children in Montgomery County are currently available for adoption. They are waiting for a loving, permanent family to step forward and open their homes to adopt. November is National Adoption Month, a collective effort nationwide to raise awareness about the dire need for adoptive homes.

On Sunday, November 1, 2009 the 19th annual Foster Care and Adoption Recruitment Summit will be held at Corinthian Baptist Church, 700 James H. McGee in Dayton starting at 4:00 p.m. The free event will feature the Wilberforce Gospel Choir, the St. Paul Mime Ministry, the Corinthian Praise Dancers and gospel singer Anita Adams.

“Each of us can be an advocate for children waiting for adoption by helping spread the word about the rewards of foster care and adoption,” said Montgomery County Department of Job and Family Services Assistant Director, Children Services Division, Gayle Bullard. “There is a strong need for adoptive families for older children, teens, sibling groups and African American children of all ages.”
