Greene Co. Sees Rash Of Break-Ins

XENIA, Ohio -- More than three dozen homes, garages and barns in Greene County have been burglarized in the less than two weeks.Deputies in Greene County said it is not clear if the break-ins are related, but they do appear to be similar in nature.The break-ins have been happening in rural areas such as Cedarville, Xenia and Miami Townships.John Hawkins said he loves living in the country and does not like criminal activity.He said, “When you hear your neighbors have been broken into, how does that you feel? Very concerned.”Investigators with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office said they have received reports that 38 homes, garages and barns have been broken into since Oct. 21.Hawkins said, “If they come here, they better watch out. I am prepared.”Deputies said that the thieves have taken tools, televisions and even all-terrain vehicles. The sheriff’s office is investigating, but so far, no arrests have been made.Hawkins said that he is making a few changes since learning of the break-ins. He said, “I keep everything locked up. Sometimes I go away and leave a door unlocked, but after this, that is not going to happen anymore.”Deputies said that if you see anything suspicious going on around your property or your neighbor’s property, call the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.
