Cop Suspended For Alleged 'Serious Misconduct'

Authorities with the Dayton Police Department said they suspended an officer following an internal affairs investigation regarding an allegation of misconduct.

Alan W. Parker has patrolled the east side of Dayton for the past 19 years.

Chief Richard Biehl said, "The alleged misconduct involves, in part, misuse of a police computer. The alleged misconduct was reported to the Dayton Police Department by another law enforcement agency."

Biehl would not elaborate on what Parker allegedly did on the department computer or what law enforcement agency initially uncovered the alleged crime. He did, however, classify the alleged misconduct as "serious."

Biehl said they had been looking into the allegations for the past two weeks before putting Parker on suspension Wednesday.

Randy Beane, president of Dayton's Fraternal Order of Police, said, "The allegations are disturbing, frankly. But we must remind everyone that due process must be played out."

The evidence in the case has been forwarded to the Montgomery County Prosecutor's Office for review. Prosecutors will decide if criminal charges will be filed or not. If so, the case could go to trial.

"I have to admit that if the officer would be found guilty of these charges, it looks like he would be terminated, and the FOP would not appeal the decision," said Beane.

Right now, Parker has not been arrested and is not facing any charges in connection with any crime.
