BEAVERCREEK, Ohio -- Police in Beavercreek said someone stole a woman’s credit card and racked up more than $50,000 in charges.A woman named Gail told police that someone stole her credit card and went on a shopping spree.Gail said, “I checked the credit balance online all the time to make sure nothing like this happens.”According to Gail, the charges were made at online stores. The first one she reported was for a total of $1,900 and then she received a phone call about a second illegal charge.“They said somebody charged a $26,000 ring from Tiffany’s on your account. I assured them that was not our charge either.”Gail said she then got another call from an online jeweler who said someone tried to buy a $31,000 diamond from her. Gail said she was glad the owner thought to call before she ran the charge.Gail said, “We had our cards in our possession. Obviously when we used them at a restaurant or something someone got the three digit code on the back of the credit card and that is how it all transpired.”Gail filed a police report with officers in Beavercreek and said she is currently working with her credit card company. The company said she is not responsible for the fraudulent charges, but she feels a responsibility to others. She wants others to know what happened to her, so it does not happen again.
