A law enforcement officer is the Miami Valley's third victim of the H1N1 influenza.

Preble County Sheriff's Capt. Michael Thornsberry died Friday afternoon at an Indianapolis hospital.

Preble County Resident Kevin Carr said, "It's horrible. I feel sorry and I offer my condolences to his family."

The 38-year-old Thornsberry was fighting both viral and bacterial pneumonia associated with H1N1.

He was in an intensive care unit for 13 days. He first felt ill October 20th.

Sheriff Mike Simpson said, "You felt at sometime he was going to kick this thing and get back to the Mike that we all knew. Unfortunately that just didn't happen."

Simpson said Thornsberry was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather.

He also called the 15-year sheriff's office veteran a good supervisor and a true professional.

Simpson said, "He is a kind of guy I refer to as a company guy. He didn't go home when the clock said to. He went home when the work was done for the day."

Visitation will be held at the Eaton Church of the Brethren at 813 Camden Road in Eaton, on Wednesday, Nov. 11, from 3p.m. to 8 p.m.

The funeral will also be at the church on Thursday, Nov. 12 at 1p.m.
