A Springfield doctor is dead after his plane crashed near Mt. Victory, Ohio.

The Hardin County Sheriff's office said Wilhelm Kalweit died Saturday afternoon at 5:45 p.m.

Deputies said his single engine aircraft crashed in a field southeast of Mt. Victory.

Our partners at the Springfield News-Sun reported that the 56-year-old Kalweit was a cardiologist.

His wife said Kalweit was flying home from Canada where he had work done on his plane.

Suzanne Kalweit said, "He loved planes and he loved flying. He loved the outdoors."

Kalweit is survived by the couples 12-year-old son and their family back on the east coast.

"The one thing I can say is that he passed away doing something he loved," Suzanne Kalweit said.
