PIQUA, Ohio -- Telling a Piqua mother she has an "awful attitude," a judge in Miami County sentenced her to three years in the Ohio State Reformatory for Women in Marysville in the death of her 5-month-old daughter.Last month a jury in Miami County Common Pleas Court in Troy found Tiffani Cantrell, 24, guilty of child endangering. On September 29, 2008, Cantrell returned home from a friend's house across the street after drinking beer and taking Vicodin pills, according to testimony in her trial. She placed her baby in bed with her. Cantrell awoke hours later to find her baby not breathing.Prior to sentencing Cantrell, Common Pleas Judge Jeffrey Welbaum told her, "You displayed a hostile negative attitude and were intoxicated, under the influence of prescription drugs."The judge also noted that Cantrell was told before by Children's Services about sleeping in bed with a different child of hers.Crying, Cantrell left the courtroom in handcuffs being escorted to the county jail for transportation to the reformatory. The judge and court bailiffs ignored a request from Cantrell's mother to give her daughter a hug before being taken to jail.
