SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- Springfield police needs help tracking down a person who shot a man Tuesday night.

The shooting happened around 6:20 p.m. on West Clark Street.

Police said they got reports of gunfire in the area and when they arrived they found a man down with a gunshot wound.

Police said it is very early in their investigation, so they are still gathering facts and are encouraging any witnesses to come forward.

Paramedics took the victim to a Springfield Hospital and then emergency officials called in Careflight to fly the victim to Miami Valley Hospital.

Crime scene technicians searched the area for shell casings and found several along with personal items, police said.
