$17K Diamond Earrings Stolen

MIAMI TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- Police in Miami Township said they are investigating a jewelry theft inside the Dayton Mall.Investigators said this is not the first time that stores near the mall have been targeted in a scam as the Christmas season approaches. They are now warning sales people to be alert.Police said the thieves were playing a game of distraction with they robbed the Rogers Jewelers in the Dayton Mall.Maj. John DiPietro said by looking at surveillance video, you can tell that the thieves knew what they were doing.He said the motive was to keep the clerk busy as other looked through the store to find the most expensive item they can take.Police said when the clerk’s back is turned, one reaches over the counter and snatches a pair of 2-carat diamond earrings worth about $17,000.Police said if you have any information about this theft, contact them at 434-TIPS.
