The SWAT Team was called out after a family fight and a 26-year-old Iraq war veteran was arrested.

The veteran’s wife told News Center that her simple attempts to help her husband backfired into a scary situation.

Police said they believe that Ryan Bowen ignored them when they knocked on his door. However, his wife said, after two tours of duty in Iraq, there is a much different explanation.

Elizabeth Bowen said, “He didn’t know they were here. He was upstairs sleeping. He sleeps soundly, being in Iraq with the bombs, he did not know they were outside.”

Elizabeth Bowen said it was her call to 911 that brought officer to the Cleary Drive home in Fairborn. She said the problems began after she tried to cheer her husband up.

“My husband’s been depressed. No family in the area. I flew his brother in Tuesday,” she said.

However, Bowen and his brother had an argument late Thursday and fought with each other. Officers were called and left when things settled down, but the dispute left Bowen even more upset.

Elizabeth Bowen said, “He wanted me and the baby to leave. He wanted to be alone.”

She told police that a couple of other things that her husband said made her fear for his safety. She called the VA and then dialed 911 for police.

Officers said since no ne answered the door and because of Ryan Bowen’s military background, they called in the SWAT Team.

Matt Ricketts with the SWAT team said, “We were able to use a camera to see him inside the residence. We then executed a flash-bang and made a tactical entry.”

Elizabeth Bowen said her husband has never been violent. She said he is just a nice, quiet, loving man and she just wanted to help him.

She said she is sorry that the situation turned into a big ordeal for her and her neighbors. However, she does understand why police had to do what they did.

Elizabeth Bowen said she believes that this just goes to show that the military takes good care of Iraq war veterans’ physical injuries, but there is a way to go when it comes to their emotional and mental condition.

Ryan Bowen was taken to the VA for evaluation. He wife said he graduated from Tecumseh High School and joined the Army in 2001.

He then received a medical discharge after he was critically injured by an IED during his second tour of duty in Iraq.
