DAYTON, Ohio -- Police said a man sprinted across a local highway, risking his own life and that of a young child he was holding in his arms.Officers said the man then threw the child over a fence, where a Good Samaritan ran to help the child. The incident happened on Route 35 late Friday afternoon, where police said the man ran across the highway in what, at first, seemed like a possible kidnapping.JT Taylor said he did not know what was going on when he saw a man running off Route 35, heading toward his home.Taylor said, “I was sitting on my porch when I saw this guy running down the hill with the baby.”Sgt. Steve Abney said, “Some neighbors happened to be watching the highway here at Broadway and 35 and saw a man run off the highway with a small child.”Officers said they were even confused as to why the man was running and where he came from.Abney said, “At that time, he was being chased by a deputy on foot.”Police said the man then tossed the baby over a fence.Taylor said, “The child ran in the street in front of a car so I went and grabbed the child.”He said he held onto the child tight until officers had the situation under control.“I didn’t know if he had kidnapped the child or what, so I held the baby until police got down the hill,” Taylor said.Officers soon realized it was a domestic dispute that started in a car that was stopped on Route 35.Abney said, “The male subject, who is the father of the child, ran out of the vehicle and down off the highway.”Police said they did not arrest the child’s father. They also said it is unlikely that they will file any charges.
