Lebanon Bus Collision Injures 17 Kids

LEBANON, Ohio -- Police in Lebanon said two school buses, carrying eight-grade students, collided Tuesday morning in en-route to the Warren County Career Center.The collision happened at 11:27 a.m. at the intersection of Miller and Drake roads. Upon arrival, police discovered that the two buses were from Kings Local Schools and were part of five buses in a caravan that were taking the students on a field trip to the career center.Police said it appears that the first bus in the crash slowed down for a changing traffic signal and the second bus failed to stop.Eighth-grader Amanda Shutte said she was aboard the first school bus when it was rear-ended. She said the collision shattered the rear window.School Superintendent Valerie Browning said most of the injured students have shoulder and neck pain. Paramedics responding to the accident immobilized two girls using a back brace and neck brace.The Lebanon Fire Department requested mutual aid from fire area departments, including Mason, Clearcreek Township, Union Township, Wayne Township and Turtlecreek Township.The departments were used to transport 17 students with what appeared to be minor injuries to three local hospitals, including Bethesda ArrowSprings, Bethesda North and Children's Liberty Campus.The crash remains under investigation.
