Good weather over the summer helped keep construction crews at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base on schedule for millions of dollars worth of projects related to the base realignment plan.

Missions from Texas, Arizona, Massachusetts and New York are moving to the base in less than two years.

One construction project on the base is the largest expansion in building and new positions in decades. There is a total of seven new buildings.

Base Commander Col. Brad Spacy gave a briefing Tuesday on how the realignment is going so far.

He said, “It’s exciting for us because we’re making great progress, I can say the construction is on time and ahead of schedule. That’s always a good thing.”

One of the projects is part of the Sensors Directorate. The missions and people to fill these new buildings will come from New York and Massachusetts. There is even a new Centrifuge building for medical research with pilots.

Some of the construction is not brand new. One of the buildings is being renovated. In the 1930’s it houses the Army Air Corp Museum, which was the forerunner of the current Air Force Museum.

The Human Performance Wing is the biggest complex that is under construction. The mission and jobs there will come from Texas and Arizona. The goal is to create a world class facility, making this the center of medical and human performance research for the Air Force.

The timeline for all seven buildings to be completed is Spring 2011.
