Thousands of people around the Miami Valley woke up early or never went to bed to in an effort to get some great shopping deals on Black Friday.

Most retail stores opened their doors before the sun came up, and some even opened at midnight.

A lot of shoppers spent the night camping out in frigid cold temperatures to get in on the best deals.

At Best Buy in Miami Township, Hilary Preece said, “My legs are numb.”

Brian Cooke who was at Best Buy said, “Yeah, it’s brutal. I don’t have a tent like the rest of the guys out here.” Early bird shoppers did anything they could to crush the cold while they waited. They used tents, built strange, plastic shelters and even used heat lamps powered by propane to keep warm.

Most of the people who camped out were look for computers and electronics.

At the Toys R Us store near the Dayton Mall, groups of people gathered on all four sides of the store. And as employees opened the entrance doors, they also opened the exit doors, causing dozens of people to run and jump in front of the line.

One person said, “I don’t understand why people were standing in line. They are idiots. There was no point when you could just walk to the front and walk into the store.”

A few cold customers, who were a bit upset about the incident, soon got themselves back into the holiday spirit.

In Beavercreek, traffic and parking lots at stores near the Fairfield Commons Mall were packed. Crowds filled the register lines at a local Meijer store after they picked up doorbuster deals.

Managers said this is their biggest sale day of the year. In recent years, Thanksgiving week has turned into one huge sale.

On Thursday night, the new Cincinnati Premium Outlets in Monroe, opened at 10 p.m. for a 24-hour sale.

Stores were packed with shoppers even before the Black Friday sales began.
