Bomb Squad Detonates Explosive Device

SHELBY COUNTY, Ohio -- The Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Bomb Squad has detonated a Vietnam-era device after it was found inside a garage on Miami River Road in Shelby County Friday.The device was found Friday afternoon inside an unattached garage in the 2600 block of Miami River Road, which is south of Sidney.Officials said they have evacuated about four homes in 300 feet in all direction of the garage. Those who were evacuated were able to return their homes around 3:45 p.m.Investigators said the device was possibly found among some junk that the homeowner bought at a flea market a couple of years ago.The homeowner was sorting through the junk and found it. Officials said the device was in the shape of a baseball. and the pin is still in place.Deputies said there was black powder under the devuce. The bomb squad took the device to an open area and detonated it.Officials said Houston Rescue was called to the scene and Lockington Fire was also called.
