Concealed Weapons Bill

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A controversial gun law in Ohio gets a boost.
It would let you carry a concealed weapon in Ohio, legally for the very first time.
The plan is moving forward now that Ohio Governor Bob Taft has told lawmakers he's no long opposed to it.
This gun bill would, for the very first time ever, let you legally carry a concealed weapon.
Supporters say 44 other states already allow it and this simply allows Ohioans to do the same thing as people in other those other state.
This proposal started moving when Bob Taft and the highway patrol dropped their opposition. It follows a move to add new safeguards.
Under the new plan you can carry a weapon with you in your car, but if there are kids along, the weapon must be in a lock box.
Other safeguards prevent carrying concealed weapons in some public areas like schools which is something the Senate sponsor was very concerned about.
The governor's still not pushing for the gun bill, but he has told lawmakers if they pass it, he will sign it.
Some of the most outspoken gun advocates are not happy with the latest gun bill.
They say it has too many restrictions that infringe on their civil rights.
