DAYTON, Ohio -- Dayton city commissioners heard bad news on Wednesday after the city’s financial situation.City Manager Tim Riordan told commissioners that a review of income tax collections from the first two months of the year is showing that income is down. That may force the city to make tough decisions even after it has already cut $17 million out of the budget for this year compared to last year.A budget workshop and review is scheduled for next week.Riordan said, “The income tax is the most volatile source and it’s about two-thirds of our revenue. I just wanted to give you a heads up at this point.”The city manager plans to have city workers analyze and discuss the issues with commissioners to decide what, if any, steps must be taken to deal with the tax income shortfall.
