Jury Convicts Tipp City Man

Stanley Street, 51, of Tipp City, was convicted Thursday by a jury for illegal cultivation of marijuana.

Miami County detectives raided his home in Tipp City on June 30, 2009, and seized marijuana and growing equipment.

Street was on trial for two days in Miami County Common Pleas Court. A jury of eight women and four men deliberated for 42 minutes before returning a guilty verdict.

Street acted as his own defense attorney. He will be sentenced on May 3, 2010.

Street’s son, Aaron, 21, was also charged with the same offense but at the last minute prosecutors dropped the charge against him on Tuesday afternoon, which was a day before the jury trial started.

Judge Jeffrey Welbaum revoked Stanley Street’s bond, had him jailed and set a new bond of $30,000. Street could face a maximum of eight years in prison.

When officers searched Street’s home, they confiscated a little less than nine pounds of marijuana.

The jury did not believe Street's claim that he is not a citizen of the United States, but is an American National, and the court did not have any jurisdiction in his case.
