DAYTON, Ohio -- The mother of a Dayton charter school student said her 10 year old reported to school officials that he was sexually assaulted in school by another male student of the same age.

Dayton police were called to Imagine Schools on Klepinger Road on Thursday. According to the student and his mother, the perpetrator is also 10 years old.

The boy’s mother said, “You send your kids to learn and something like this occurs. It’s not right.”

The child’s mother arrived at the school and her son said another 10-year-old attacked him while he was in the bathroom.

“At that time, another child his age pushed him to the floor and grabbed his private area,” the mother said. “So, they actually touched his private parts, squeezing and holding his private part,”

The woman said another student walked in on the incident and that student pushed the alleged attacker off her son. The victim went straight to the principal’s office.

The boy’s mother said, “My main concern is if the other kid that came in the bathroom hadn’t come in there, who knows what else would happen or how far it would have went.”

School officials confirmed that there was an incident at Imagine Schools, but would not share any details. They also said they called police and that officers took a report.

“The people who have children in school, they need to know that stuff like this does happen. You don’t really hear it, but it happens,” the mother said.

The victim’s mother said that her son will now attend a different school, but there will still be lingering questions and worries.

“When I send my kids to school now, even though they’re going to a new school, what’s going to happen to them?” the mother said.
