Teen Charged In November Homicide

A 16-year-old was formally charged Tuesday in connection with the Nov. 21 shooting death of a Dayton man.

Police said the teen was charged with one count of murder in connection with the death of 20-year-old Trenton Scoggins.

The teen was arrested on his 16th birthday back in November, five hours after the shooting, police said. The shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. at a home on Willowood Drive.

According to police, the motive for the shooting was a dispute over money that was owed for drugs. Officers said the teen and the victim were related to each other.

The 16-year-old was held in the Montgomery County Family Courts Center while the investigation continued.

If indicted by a grand jury, the teen could be tried as an adult.
