DAYTON, Ohio -- A crash shut down U.S Route 35 for several hours after a man slammed into the back of a semi and flipped his car several times.Police said Jeffrey Smith Jr. was trying to pass another car in his Oldsmobile when he slammed on his brakes but could not avoid hitting the back of a semi in the westbound lanes of Route 35 near Abbey Road.Medics stabilized Smith before taking him to Miami Valley Hospital, where he is listed in fair condition.Officers said they do not believe that alcohol was a factor in the crash. They believe Smith was simply going too fast.Sgt. Michael Pauley said, "It's a possibility he didn't see the semi from the looks of his skid marks. People definitely need to slow down and watch their speed."The crash is still under investigation. No charges have been filed.
